The Mormon Crisis

Mitt Romney’s run for President of the United States created enormous interest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). In spite of massive media focus during the so-called Mormon Moment, coverage was often shallow and misleading, with few reporters digging in deep enough to deal with evidence that the Mormon Church is in a deep crisis. Significant membership decline is occurring as evidence mounts about lies, fraud, criminality and deception through the entire history of Mormonism.

In Mormon Crisis Jim Beverley deals with major issues about Joseph Smith, the first LDS prophet. He provides a sustained critique of Mormon Scripture, examines flaws in the LDS understanding of Church leadership, and probes unique doctrines and practices, including the secret temple ceremonies. James A. Beverley is Professor of Christian Thought and Ethics at  Tyndale Seminary in Toronto, and is Associate Director of the Institute for the Study of American Religion, where he works with the renowned scholar of religion J. Gordon Melton. Professor Beverley is the author and editor of twelve books, including Nelson’s Illustrated Guide to Religions, Islamic Faith in America and Counterfeit Code, (Castle Quay Books) a reply to Dan Brown’s famous novel. 

He is a contributing editor for Christianity Today magazine and a columnist for Faith Today magazine. He tells the Mormon story as few can as a result of studies in Mormonism for over 35 years.

His wife Gloria is a kindergarten teacher and they have two adult children and two grandchildren.
